Hadley has had a good week. She had a doctor's visit and she gained a whole pound in a week. That might not sound like much, but it is about 10% of her body weight. For those of us over 100 lbs (a category I most certianly fall in...) that means gaining over 10 pounds in a week! Doctors say it is a sign that she is feeding well and is a healthy baby. She has gotten into a good routine of sleeping through most of the night, with only one feeding time around 230/300 AM. Lauren has been doing a great job of tending to this late-night need and is proving to be an excellent mother for little miss. Hadley tends to get a bit mad in the evening (coincidently right about the time Dad gets home) and crys usually for about 2 hours. We have developed a few tricks and techniques for trying to callm her down whcih have varying degrees of success based on some unknown factor. From what all of our books and from what our doctors say, this is totally normal and tends to peak around 6-7 weeks of age (which is her current age). We are thinking this might subside in the weeks to come.
Hadley has achieved one of her first developmental milestones. Quite often, when we look over the edge of her bassinet, she looks right back at us. Not over our shoulder or in our direction, rather directly into our eyes. It is starting to feel like she knows who we are - and is happy to see us. We are even starting to see what certianly appear to be genuine smiles! We like to think this is because she is happy her parents are nearby and not just because she happens to be passing gas...
I am off tomorrow on my first business trip since Hadley's arrival. Fortunately, Hadley's grandmother (Diane) will be coming out to Boulder to assist. Perhaps next weekend we'll have some photos from the visit!
Hadley and Lauren had some down time this afternoon and I got some great photos of them relaxing in bed. Enjoy.
